My role in this process was to create a visual style for the new corporate identity and to design and develop a mobile and web version of the website using WordPress.

The main challenge was to design a suitable website and mobile version that would attract people to attend their events and purchase tickets.

Debrief

The client sent a message detailing the deliverables they requested and the visual style they liked. My colleagues explained ecstatic dance to me, as I was unfamiliar with the concept.

I felt it was important to first understand what it was, why people do it, and what the motivation behind it is. This allowed me, as a designer, to better empathize and understand the participants' reasons for engaging in it.

Research

I then started researching various

visuals, colors, and typography

that would best visualize the company's goal and impact.

I converted these visuals

into different concepts

so that they could be presented to

the client in a clear and structured manner.

In the development phase, I went through three different iterations. I started with the first version of the wireframes. In the first wireframe phase, I determined a structure and navigation based on their current site. This navigation was arranged with the thought that people should receive the information about what ecstatic dance is, and the navigation should stimulate visitors to buy tickets and find out who the organization is. That is why a design showing what the upcoming event could be is on the homepage, and a 'what to expect' page was added.

In the second iteration, a number of feedback points came back from the client and my internship supervisors. It was important for visitors to understand the atmosphere of the events, which is why sections were added, such as a section where people can listen to the music and photos of the locations.

In the final iteration, I adjusted the typography in the wireframes and generally added more form so that the client got a better overview of how the site will look. In the last wireframes, the goals of the website are better elaborated. Now, the information is better subdivided so that the visitor gets the right information that is needed; one page contains everything about the definition of ecstatic dance and what a ceremony looks like, and on another page all the practical information about the foundation is better written out.

Reflection

This was a valuable assignment as I experienced the entire design process from start to finish for the first time. I learned how to effectively develop concepts and articulate the reasoning behind design choices, such as linking meaning to the company's vision, selecting appropriate colors, and justifying typography choices. Furthermore, I designed and developed the entire website on WordPress. This project taught me how to work with the platform while emphasizing the importance of thinking from the visitor's perspective, ensuring the navigation and design elements are clear and useful for the end-user? Why do I choose a specific font?
